Jeff Jordan serves on the faculty of Fort Hays State University where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and assists with the Tiger Marching band. In addition, Dr. Jordan teaches courses in conducting and music education, instructs the horn studio and oversees student teachers. Prior to arriving at FHSU, he served as the opening Band Director and Music Department Chair for Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Jordan’s public school teaching experience includes sixteen years at all levels in central Florida and Kansas. During his tenure at Seminole High School, he was elected to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, was selected as Teacher of the Year and was a Top Ten Finalist for County Teacher of the Year. Dr. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from Florida Southern College, a Master’s in Composition from the University of Kansas and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers have included Gary Hill, Sarah McKoin and James Slutz (conducting), as well as John Pozdro, James Barnes, Jack Stamp and Paul Rudy (composition).
Dr. Jordan’s recent works include Salute! for Brass Choir which was selected as a winner in the Dallas Wind Symphony’s Fanfare Competition and was performed as a concert prelude at the Meyerson Symphony Center by the Fort Hays State University Brass Choir, Dr. Lane Weaver, conductor. Additionally, his Psalms, Praises and Gifts for SATB Choir and Chamber Winds was commissioned by the Fort Hays State University Concert Choir, Dr. Terry Crull, conductor and premiered at the 2016 KMEA convention. Dr. Jordan’s and a time is profiled in Volume Six of Teaching Music Through Performance in Band from GIA publications.
